Functional & Integrative Medical Clinic
Health Function arose from the collective personal experiences of the owner-operators while pursing our own health journeys and exploring opportunities to increase mental & physical capacity. Cindy, Rose & Neil decided to see how we can "crack the code" for running a Private Functional & Integrative Medical Clinic to share what we are discovering.

Qualified, Experienced, Authoritative, Innovative, Responsive, Registered Medical Doctor
I am an experienced General Practitioner (Family Medicine Physician) having graduated from Stellenbosch University, South Africa in 1990.
By 1996 I was well ensconced as a General Practitioner in New Zealand. However, over the years I became increasingly dissatisfied with what I could offer clients and indeed the whole medical system seemed broken to me, with an emphasis on pharmaceuticals instead of increasing quality of life while decreasing the reliance on pharmaceuticals. Through a series of life events, I was prodded to slowly start dipping my toe into alternative treatments for my family, my clients and myself. As I became aware of the potential of ortho-molecular, nutritional, epigenetic and indeed energetic modalities to enhance our health and our lives, there was no going back. I have since undertaken much formal and informal study in the areas of Functional & Integrative Medicine.
My approach to clients takes into account every facet of who they are and how they live their lives. For example I am only able to prescribe treatment for menstrual problems, if I am aware of other aspects such as diet and relationships. I gain great satisfaction from “peeling away the layers of the onion” that are the symptoms and conditions that clients’ present with, finding what works best to enhance their lives.

I love working with people and supporting them in rediscovering how their bodies can come back to movement and wellness that is meaningful in their daily lives.
I’ve worked in health for nearly 40 years in New Zealand and overseas including experience in surgery and general practice through to injury management and rehabilitation.
Personally, my challenges have been IBS and hormonal issues and the CAM approach has been the only thing that's provided me long term and sustainable change.
Over all these years of working with and observing myself and others and our bodies, I know that we all have the ability to change our health direction and to live well.
I am stronger and more resilient and aging doesn't mean decline.
I first used functional medicine 10 years ago to optimize physical and cognitive performance while operating at a high level of demand growing an aviation industry SAAS company. It turned out the PHO funded guidelines and I had different objectives and I needed to take responsibility for the outcomes important to me. My experience with functional medicine and the resulting performance improvements led me to Health Function.
So far so good, but what's a qualified software engineer doing in a functional medical clinic? The medical and aviation industries are both customer facing with regulatory, automation & privacy requirements. However whereas aviation has driven down cost while increasing outcomes, health costs are spiraling while the population is growing sicker. Few doctors, nurses or clients are happy about the situation. My role then is to assist my medically qualified and experienced colleagues to provide better alternatives for our clients.
